Dr. Joan has coached hundreds of folks over the course of her career. When conducting human bed-rest studies as a way to simulate the effects of long-term spaceflight, she coached research subject volunteers on how to adapt to living horizontally. As Director of NASA Life Sciences, she coached her team to work collaboratively with hundreds of university investigators across the country, several US government agencies, and with many international space exploration organizations. Astronauts have sought her confidential counsel about adapting to life back on Earth after adjusting to the microgravity of space flight.
