AUTHOR

Joan has for many years researched, published and given presentations to scientists and engineers on what space has taught us about the importance of gravity. After sharing this emerging knowledge more widely she received many requests for information that could be more readily understood by the general public for application to our everyday lives. She started writing for broader audiences. The results include:

Inactivity: Physiological Effects, H. Sandler and Joan Vernikos (Eds.) New York, Academic Press Inc., 1986 (Out of Print, second-hand available through Amazon.com)

Wonderful surprise to receive an email from our publisher EDIPUCRS 'A Gravidade Esta Grande Escultora' the Brazilian version of The G-Connection, co-authored with Dr. Thais Russomano, was selected for consideration for Jabuti Premios 2010 in the category Natural Sciences & Health Sciences. This prestigious award, sponsored by the Brazilian Chamber of Books, has been running since 1958 and is possibly the most well known and important literary prize in Brazil.

The book shows how adopting a lifestyle that optimizes the use of gravity as an ally, can help reverse or slow down the changes that come with the aging process. By looking at the results of space research, we can gain a better understanding  of the effects of Earth's gravity on our human physiology and use this in a common sense way to help improve the quality of our lives.

Results of the selection process should be announced in August and October this year, so fingers crossed!
